Portrait Options

Written by

SIGN 2000 has many options to honor or memorialize that special person. Send us the photo and choose from one of the three options shown below.

PHOTO ETCH

The etching process allows you to forever replicate your photograph, line drawing or complex artwork.
This method utilizes a halftone dot pattern made from a 50-line screen. Halftone portraits resemble newspaper photographs, and have visible dot patterns. The etched, recessed dots are black infilled to contrast with the satin finished metal background. The best photographs for halftone etched protraits have high contrast tones with bright white areas, dense black areas and minimal grey tones. Photos that are monotone or have muted colors will produce poor halftone etchings. Halftone etchings are not available in aluminum.

We start with a photograph. Although we can use almost any quality photograph, the better the image the better the modeling effort. Remember, the finished image will be an artists interpretation of this photograph. An image of this clay model is sent to you via email for your comments or approval. When approved, the clay model is used for the bronze casting process. While the clay model is a monotone, the finished bronze casting contains highlights. The bas relief is mechanically attached to the plaque background. Overall height of around 6" to 9" with a finished depth of 3/4" to 1".

Sculpturing Guidelines

? Provide more than one picture of the person so the sculptor can discern

straight hair, wavy hair, etc. But select which picture the bas is to bebased upon.

? If the picture to be sculpted has a pin, brooch, or patch on the apparel,

keep in mind that on a 6? high sculpture, that image is only about 1/4? to3/4? high, and detail cannot be achieved in the sculpting process. Moreoften than not, it is better to leave these adornments off instead of thefinished product looking like there is a ?blob? on the shirt.

? The sculpture is done right off the picture provided, with the same width

of head, neck and shoulders. We cannot make a person look ?10 yearsyounger? nor can features such as mustache, eyebrows or hair behighlighted. Highlighting is done in the casting and finishing process ofmanufacturing, not sculpting.

? If a picture provided is poor or has bad lighting, tell us if the person has

wavy, straight or curly hair. Often by the picture we cannot tell what thehair texture is and must go by what it appears to be.

? Changes made to sculptures that were not on the picture provided could

result in scrapping out the entire first sculpture and would result in a newsculpture charge. Be realistic with changes

? The smaller the bas relief, the harder it is to capture the essence of the

person. Details of the face, such as cheekbones, wrinkles, etc., cannot beindicated on these as well as larger sculptures.

? The bigger and higher resolution pictures produce the best sculpturing

results.

? Dark clothing does not show where the collar or shirt stops and starts.

Please lighten pictures with light clothing.

? Many times rank emblems are so small we cannot tell what the actual

shape is. Please type up a description or draw a sketch.

BAS-RELIEF

's photo inserts use a standard-sized ceramic blank as its base. A photograph is scanned at high resolution and a digital transfer is produced and applied to the blank. A clear glaze is applied over this transfer, and the insert is fired in a kiln. The resulting product is an exact color (or black & white) permanent reproduction on a ceramic base.

Emblems

SIGN 2000 Emblem of a Wheat logo

EMBLEMS & LOGOS
SIGN 2000 has the capability to add a custom emblem or logo to your plaque in two different ways: One method the emblem/logo is made as part of the plaque. Detail is somewhat limited by the manufacturing process. The other method is to have the emblem/logo etched on a separate piece of metal and then attached to the plaque. This process has nearly no detail restrictions.
